13 Killed as Bus Plunges into River in Kampong Thom Province

Kampong thom: Thirteen people were killed and 24 others injured after a bus crashed into a bridge's rail and plunged into a river in central Cambodia's Kampong Thom province. The incident occurred early Thursday on a national road in the Santuk district.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the fatal accident took place at around 3:00 a.m. local time, as reported by Siv Sovanna, deputy police chief of Santuk district. "Thirteen people, including eight women, were pronounced dead, as 24 others sustained injuries," Sovanna informed Xinhua over the telephone. He noted that drowsy driving was the most likely cause of the accident.

The injured victims were immediately rushed to a hospital following the crash. All individuals involved in the accident were identified as Cambodian nationals.

The tragic event underscores the ongoing issue of road traffic accidents in Cambodia. In the first nine months of 2025, a government report revealed that 1,062 people lost their lives in road crashes, while 2,256 others sustained injuries.
