Boston: One person is dead and six others are missing after a commercial fishing vessel sank off the coast of the U.S. state of Massachusetts on Friday. The U.S. Coast Guard reported that they received an emergency position-indicating radio beacon alert from the 72-foot fishing vessel Lily Jean at approximately 6:50 a.m. local time.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the alert prompted the Coast Guard to initiate a search operation after they were unable to establish contact with the vessel. A search and rescue mission was launched, involving an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and a small boat crew.
Rescue teams discovered a debris field near the signal site, located about 25 miles off the coast of Cape Ann. Within this area, one person was found unresponsive in the water, and an empty life raft associated with the vessel was also located. The identity of the deceased individual has not been disclosed. Efforts to locate the remaining six missing individuals continue.
