Heavy Rainfall Suspends Talanta Hela Football Tournament Finals

Nyeri – The final football matches of the National Talanta Hela football tournament in Nyeri Town have been suspended due to heavy rainfall. The decision was made after the Nyeri Complex Primary School ground became too muddy and slippery for play, with a match between the Busia Girls team and Homabay football team being called off five minutes into the second half.

According to Kenya News Agency, Tournament referee Douglas Ngugi confirmed the suspension of the match, noting the technical committee’s decision to halt the games due to adverse weather conditions. The committee is set to deliberate on the way forward and communicate their final decision.

Earlier, Kirinyaga County Boys secured third place in the playoffs against Nakuru Boys, and in the girls’ category, Uasin Gishu triumphed over Machakos. The week-long regional sporting event, which attracted 21 teams, was expected to conclude with Sports CS Ababu Namwamba attending the closing ceremony.

Kenya Academy of Sports (KAS) CEO Doreen Odhiambo labeled the event a success, highlighting its role in identifying and nurturing talents for international representation. KAS’s main goal is to diversify Kenya’s representation in various sports on the global stage. As of August, KAS had identified around 2,000 talents across different disciplines, offering specialized training to develop a formidable national sports team for the future.
