ISTIC’s 19th Promotion Provides Aid to Internally Displaced in Kaya

Ouagadougou – On December 9, 2023, the 19th promotion of students from the Institute of Information and Communication Sciences and Techniques (ISTIC) delivered essential food and non-food items to the Kaya sector 1 medical center in the Centre-North region. This initiative was directed towards supporting displaced women and children, as reported by Agence d’Information du Burkina (AIB).

The contribution, handed over in the maternity ward of the medical center, included clothing for women and children, blankets, cans of liquid soap, and bags of rice. The aid was aimed at alleviating the hardships of those who fled their villages due to rising insecurity and sought refuge in Kaya, the regional capital of the Centre-North.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the spokesperson for the ISTIC group, the students were deeply moved by the plight of these displaced individuals and rallied together to collect donations. “The 19th promotion felt challenged by the situation of these displaced women and children and wanted to express their compassion and solidarity,” Tiegna stated, acknowledging that the aid provided was modest but significant.

The Major of the Kaya Sector 1 Medical Center, Mr. Abdoulaye Sankara, and the representative of the Regional Directorate of Humanitarian Action, Ms. Fataya Tankoano/Zabré, expressed their gratitude for the donation. They noted the critical need for such support, especially during this cold period and amidst the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

The women beneficiaries, through their representative, extended their thanks to the ISTIC students, hoping for peace and the chance to return to their homes. The 19th class of ISTIC, comprising around forty students, graduated in 2007 after two years of training in information and communication professions. The Centre-North region of Burkina Faso has faced terrorist attacks since 2016, leading to significant displacement and a humanitarian crisis that the country continues to address.
