Pretoria: President Jacob Zuma has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria for winning the 2013 Africa Nations Cup (Afcon), which South Africa hosted from January 19 until February 10.
Nigeria won the coveted trophy after beating their fellow West Africans, Burkina Faso, 1-nil last Sunday at National Stadium outside Soweto.
“We extend hearty congratulations to the African champions, the Federal Republic of Nigeria and also to all participating teams for their contribution to showcasing the standard of African football.
“We have just concluded a highly successful Afcon tournament. We thank all our people for being excellent hosts and fans,” he said.
Zuma also thanked the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Issa Hayatou for affording South Africa the honour of hosting the Afcon.
