Written question – Cooperation with countries in the Southern Mediterranean on the delivery of renewable energy – E-001309/2016

Morocco is currently building the largest ‘concentrated solar energy’ complex in the world, the NOOR complex in Ouarzazate, in the south of the country. At present this energy cannot be exported to the EU owing to a lack of interconnectors.

Is the Commission in contact with Morocco and other countries in the Southern Mediterranean area on the exchange of renewable energy with Europe?

What specific initiatives does the Commission propose to take as regards the manufacture of interconnectors?
