RUNDU: A 35-year-old woman allegedly hacked her husband to death with a garden hoe on Monday while he was sleeping at the Sivaradi village, situated some 90km south of Rundu.
The deceased was identified as Andreas Semete, 39. He died on the spot.
Kletha Sikaki Sivambi made her first appearance in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday before Rundu Magistrate William Kasitomo.
State Prosecutor Clara Mwilima objected to bail being granted because investigations were still at a preliminary stage, and that it will not be in the interest of justice for the accused person to be released at this stage.
Kasitomo remanded the accused in custody, and advised her to launch a formal bail application if she wants to be released on bail.
The case was then postponed to 09 April this year for further police investigations and legal aid applications.
Sivambi is facing a charge of murder, read together with the Domestic Violence Act 4 of 2003.
According to the charge sheet, after killing the deceased, the accused person apparently dragged his body outside to the back of their house, and apparently placed a shotgun on top of the dead body to apparently create the impression that he had shot himself.
Relatives found the deceased lying in a pool of blood.
