Pretoria: Wholesale trade sales at constant prices in August increased by 7% year-on-year, compared with 9.1% year-on-year in July, said Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) on Thursday.
According to Stats SA, wholesale trade sales in nominal terms increased by 10.8% year-on-year in August 2012.
“Measured in real terms (constant 2000 prices), seasonally adjusted wholesale trade sales increased by 2.2% in August 2012 compared with July 2012. This followed month-on-month changes of 1.3% in July 2012 and -4.2% in June 2012.”
In the last three months ended August, measured in nominal terms (current prices), wholesale trade sales increased by 11% compared with the three months ended August 2011.
Solid, liquid and gaseous fuels and related products, agricultural raw materials and livestock as well as machinery, equipment and supplies were the major contributors to the increase.
