Western Bypass claims another life

WINDHOEK: A middle-aged man lost his life in a fatal road accident that happened on the notorious Western Bypass in the capital in the morning rush hours of Wednesday (today).

The deceased, whose identity cannot be named at this time as his next of kin are yet to be informed, died on the spot shortly after he allegedly smashed (hit) a Toyota Corolla he was driving into a pillar (column) of a bridge on the Western Bypass this morning during rush hours just few minutes before 07h00.

The deceased person was traveling from the southern direction towards the Katutura State Hospital when the car allegedly left the road and hit into a pillar of the bridge.

Members of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Emergency Unit Nampa spoke to at the scene of the accident at about 07h40 today, suspect speeding as the cause of the accident that led to the loss of life.

The vehicle (Toyota Corolla sedan) involved in the accident was destroyed to pieces, and the deceased person was traveling alone in the car at the time of the accident, said Police.

The badly injured body of the deceased person has already been taken to the mortuary at the Windhoek Central Hospital.

Meanwhile, Police investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and the circumstances that led to it.
