Members of the media are invited to a media tour to profile the work of the Roodeplaat Dam in light of the recent declaration of drought by the Interministerial Task Team on Water as a national disaster.
The Roodeplaat Dam plays a central role in supplying water to farmers and therefore is vital for sustainable food production. The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) purification works at Temba supplies 2, 6 million m3 of potable water per annum to, amongst others, the towns of Temba and Hammanskraal and the Wallmmannstal Purification Works.
As the drought is still gripping pockets of the country, part of the tour will be to ensure that communities are encouraged to conserve water to prevent the possibility of facing the situation which is currently being experienced in other areas.
