LAGOS: UNITED States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, is later today scheduled to attend a local meeting on Boko Haram, her office disclosed.
The following day, she will co-chair a meeting of the U.S.-Nigeria Binational Commission’s Regional Security Working Group.
Thomas-Greenfield, who has been in Nigeria since Monday, will be in the country until Friday.
During her visit, she will also meet with Government of Nigeria officials and civil society to discuss the country’s upcoming 2015 elections.
The Assistant Secretary will also meet with recently returned Mandela Washington Fellowship alumni from President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).
Her visit to Nigeria comes amid terror attacks blamed on the Boko Haram sect, political tensions ahead of the next general election and the Ebola virus outbreak. –
