OTJIWARONGO: The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region arrested two men in connection with the rapes of two toddlers in Okahandja over the weekend.
Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations’ Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Moses Khairabeb told Nampa on Monday that the men, both aged 32 years, were arrested for the alleged rape of girls aged three and four years.
The first rape incident took place between 10h00 and 13h00 on Saturday in the Nau-Aib residential area, when the suspect in the matter forced himself onto a four-year-old girl.
The girl started screaming, which led to her mother catching her attacker in the act.
The mother reported the incident to the Okahandja Police Station and the police arrested the man on the same day.
He was scheduled to appear in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court on Monday, the deputy commissioner said.
The other rape case under investigation was reported on Sunday at the same police station after a three-year-old girl was raped.
The incident took place at around 11h00 on the same day, also at Nau-Aib.
According to Khairabeb, the suspect in the matter was caught having sexual intercourse with the toddler in the bushes there by community members, who alerted the girl’s mother.
“The child’s mother reported the matter to us in Okahandja,” Khairabeb noted.
The alleged rapist was arrested and was set to appear in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
