OTJIWARONGO: Two Italians and a Namibian died instantly after the vehicle they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck on the road between Otjiwarongo and Okahandja yesterday evening.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Deputy Commander, Deputy Commissioner Gerhard Uataurua Mavenjono told Nampa today that the accident happened between 20h00 and 21h00.

The two Italians and their Namibian driver were travelling in a Land Cruiser from Okahandja towards Otjiwarongo.

The three occupants of the Land Cruiser died on the spot, and the top part of their vehicle was completely flattened.

The truck driver sustained serious injuries, and was admitted to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital in a serious condition.

2 (GOBABIS) – Despite various efforts by Government to have San communities integrated into the mainstream of society, many San people still languish in extreme poverty, often with no proper roofs over their heads.

In the Omaheke Region, where over 8 000 San live, the situation is no different.

During a briefing of the visiting Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economics, Natural Resources and Public Administration to the Omaheke Region yesterday, it came to the fore that San communities here are still languishing at the bottom of the earnings ladder.

The San communities in the region top the list of those accorded pauper burials by Government through its decentralised structures, as they simply do not have the funds to bury their loved ones when they depart.

Nampa learnt that in the rural areas, the situation is even worse, as settlements there do not have structures through which pauper burials can be arranged.
