Tses: The residents of Tses village near Keetmanshoop Friday staged a peaceful demonstration demanding that the village council Accountant and her Assistant Accountant leave the office.

A petition received by Berseba Constituency Councillor Dawid Boois indicates that Renate Thomas and her assistant Haikali Kanelombe are not needed in the council office.

Residents also demand that council Chief Executive Officer Ivan Vries (CEO) and Artisan Silas Amulungu should also be removed from office.

Alleged poor services, lack of development, bad attitudes, and tribalism from the community side and misuse of council vehicles are some of the reasons that led to the community decision.

Affected employees who spoke to Nampa on condition of anonymity Tuesday and Wednesday denied allegations that they have been misusing council vehicle by going out to bars after hours.

Some say they do not really know why community demands that they be removed from their work.

“I will not feel threatened by people saying I must not work because I know I did nothing wrong. If they have a problem then they should make it clear to us,” said one of the employees.

Vries could not be reached for comments Wednesday as he could not answer his phone.

He (Vries) was quoted by the Namibian Newspaper (30 July) as saying “if they (community) do not see the development at the village then I do not know what development is”.

However, Boois told Nampa Tuesday that the matter will be attended to by the council and see how to solve it.

Tses is located 80 kilometres north of Keetmanshoop in the Berseba Constituency of Karas Region.

A petition received by Berseba Constituency Councillor Dawid Boois on the same day demanded that CEO Ivan Vries, accountant Renate Thomas and assistant accountant Haikali Kanelombe be removed from the council office.

The residents also want artisan Silas Amulungu removed from his position.

They allege that they are faced with poor service, a lack of development, bad attitudes by the council employees, and tribalism, which prompted them to hold the demonstration. They also claim that the council vehicles are being misused as the employees allegedly use it to go out to bars after working hours.
