SWAKOPMUND: Two suspects appeared in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of alleged fraud and falsification of Namibian banknotes.
The two – Ndafenongo Kalola, 25, and Andreas Embashu, 24 – were arrested on Friday, and made their first appearance before Magistrate Erich Kesslau.
Regional Crime Investigations’ Coordinator of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Erongo Region, Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa told Nampa on Monday that the two suspects were arrested after paying for fuel with counterfeit money at the Engin Truck Port in Swakopmund.
Two counterfeit N.dollars 100 notes were discovered among the money the two suspects used to pay for the fuel at the service station on Friday.
A vigilant petrol attendant discovered the fake banknotes, and also recognised the two suspects from a previous incident two days before when they also paid for petrol with four fake N.dollars 100 notes.
By the time of the discovery on Wednesday, the two suspects had left the fuel station already.
Kashuupulwa noted that the serial numbers of the five fake N.dollars 100 notes are all the same.
During their court appearance on Monday, both suspects indicated that they will conduct their own defence.
They were granted bail of N.dollars 1 000 each, and the case was postponed to 19 November this year to allow for further police investigations.
