KEETMANSHOOP: A traffic officer stationed at Karasburg and his co-accused appeared in the Karasburg District Court yesterday on charges of corruption.
Sergeant Christie Njede, 33, was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) last Wednesday for contravening Section 43 (1) of the ACC Act No 8 of 2003, which involves corruptly using his office or position of power to obtain gratification for his own benefit.
Court records indicate that Njede sold a code CE licence to the 34-year-old Petrus Freeman on 17 August 2010 at Karasburg without Freeman undergoing any driving test.
For allegedly buying the licence for an unspecified amount, Freeman was arrested on the same day and charged with conspiring with the driving examiner.
Nampa has learned that although the incident took place in 2010, the accused persons were only arrested last week when their arrests were authorised by Prosecutor-General Martha Imalwa.
