SWAKOPMUND: Swakopmund Mayor Rosina //Hoabes on Monday officially opened a newly constructed traffic circle on the B2 road leading into the tourist town.
The traffic circle, located at the entrance of the town on the B2 road from Arandis, was constructed as part of the municipality’s road infrastructure development to improve safety for its road users.
Hoabes indicated during the opening ceremony that the traffic circle is “opening the door to a safer Swakopmund” and said street lights were also erected at the traffic circle so that motorists can enjoy improved vision when entering the town.
The traffic circle was constructed over a period of six weeks.
The mayor indicated that the construction work created employment for small contractors.
The paving and interlocking of the circle was done by two contracting companies, JR Paving and ER Renovation, while the groundwork for the construction was done by the municipality.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Swakopmund Municipality, Eckart Demasius informed Nampa that the traffic circle will serve as a ‘speed calming device’.
