KEETMANSHOOP: Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) Corporate Communications Practitioner Maggy Mbako says the attendance of tour guides at the consultation workshop in Keetmanshoop was disappointing.
It took place at the Birds Mansion Hotel last Thursday.
‘Despite all the efforts that we did through radios and newspapers to inform people to come to the workshops, only ten people showed up. Maybe they are not interested,” she told Nampa in a telephonic interview Tuesday.
The consultation workshop solicits the inputs of Namibian tour guides on the regulations relating to their profession before the document can be gazetted.
Workshops started in Oshakati, Oshana Region on 23 July, moved to Swakopmund, Erongo region on 25 and ended in the capital, Khomas region today.
Mbako said the attendance in Erongo, Oshana and Khomas was good.
According to her more than 1 000 people attended the workshop in Windhoek this morning.
Fouty-five showed up in Oshakati and more than 70 attended in Swakopmund.
It is not good that Karas people did not attend because we wanted everyone’s input,” she said.
The document is still in the consultation stage and the NTB will present the feedback of final document after considering all the suggestions given from the regions.
After that then it will be presented to the Ministry of Environment and Tourism for Gazetting consideration.
Mbako could not give the exact dates when the feedback on the document will be given to public.
