The July 25 Harak rejects the organisation of municipal elections next May,» announced Mohamed Ben Mabrouk, spokesperson for the movement.

He considers it necessary to replace the councils “dominated by the Ennahdha movement” with special delegations in order to create a climate favorable to the organisation of these elections.

Speaking at a press conference in Tunis on Wednesday, Ben Mabrouk said the current moment allows the responsibilities of all those who have damaged the country over the past ten years to be defined.

He called on the Ministry of Justice to make the trials of those arrested public and cover them in the local and international media, describing the opponents of President Kais Saied as “traitors”.

He also criticised the work of the Tunisian General Workers’ Union (UGTT), calling it “a partner during the black decade, when it had a say in appointments to serve its agenda.”

“The Tunisian authorities should bring to justice all trade unionists who have stolen public money,” he said.

The Harak spokesperson added that the movement is working with Kais Saied to identify all cases of corruption.

Ben Mabrouk also called for the case of former Libyan Prime Minister Baghdadi Mahmoudi to be opened because “those who were in power in 2012 (referring to the Ennahdha movement, the Congress for the Republic (CPR) and Ettakatol) received millions of dinars in exchange for handing Mahmoudi over to the Libyan authorities.»

On the issue of sub-Saharan Africans, Ben Mabrouk said the Head of State’s comments had been misinterpreted, “especially as the 2022 constitution guarantees the protection of minorities”.
