SWAKOPMUND: The owner of Erongo Meat and Fish Market was arrested here on Monday by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol), on alleged charges of being in possession of game meat without a permit.

Regional Crime Investigations’ Coordinator of NamPol in the Erongo Region, Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa stated during a press conference held on Tuesday, that NamPol received a tip-off from members of the public, that the suspect received meat believed to be Oryx meat.

She further said that a total of 10 Oryx carcases were confiscated and the value of the meat is estimated at N.dollars 20 000.

The suspect apparently told NamPol, that he bought the meat for a friend who has a butchery in Mariental.

“When the Police arrived to question the suspect, he could not provide the papers for the game meat, which followed to his arrest,” Kashuupulwa said.

The suspect will appear tomorrow (Wednesday) in the Swakopmund Magistrates Court.
