Pretoria: Team South Africa added three more medals to their tally at the 2012 Paralympics in London on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, athletics action Michael Louwrens took bronze in the F57 men’s shot put event.
In the evening schedule it was Natalie du Toit who swam to her second gold medal of the championships when she won the 400-metre freestyle final in style. Du Toit has now won a total of 12 gold medals in her Paralympic history.
The third and final medal of the day came from Shireen Sapiro in the 100m backstroke as she scooped bronze.
SASCOC Chief Executive Officer Tubby Reddy welcomed the latest additions to the medal collection which brings the total to 15 medals.
“We are now exactly halfway to our tally of 30 medals at the Beijing Paralympics and let’s hope we can push on from here and overtake that total.
“Well done to Natalie in her final Paralympics, well done to Michael, our oldest member of the team here at 52 years of age, and also to Shireen for giving her all and getting a medal.”
Team South Africa’s medals breakdown is three gold, five silver and seven bronze. The Games end on Sunday, 9 September.
