SWAKOPMUND: The Mayoral Gala Dinner held here on Saturday, generated more than N.dollars 200 000 towards the Mayoral Development Fund.
The total amount of money received including additional pledges, amounted to N.dollars 244 474.
Speaking during the gala dinner, Mayor of Swakopmund, Rosina //Hoabes, stated that the vision of the Swakopmund Municipal Council is to provide and maintain safe, sufficient and affordable services for residents and visitors, as well as promote future development to the benefit of the community.
She continued to say that the Council’s vision can only be achieved if the Municipality and various stakeholders sharing the same vision of the Council, co-exists in a harmonious relationship.
“We as Council, held people-centred development in high regard, it is imperative to recognise that our people are our most valuable asset, and we need to act accordingly,” she said.
//Hoabes added that investing in the community, is one of the key strategies for developing a vibrant and competitive local economy and a society based on the principles of equity, justice and mutual respect.
The Mayor’s Development Fund was established in 2004 with the aim of undertaking projects that are of benefit to the community.
The gala dinner is only hosted every second year and all proceedings go towards the community, especially the schools and the youth and also the elderly.
The fund also assists projects that are of a community developmental nature.
//Hoabes further indicated that education plays a significant role in making any possibility a reality.
“However, in order to play this role, the necessary resources must be mobilised and as a result, the fund was establishment,” she noted.
She therefore requested, that stakeholders in the development circle should continue with their assistance, especially for the long-term feasibility of the fund.
“We request our local businesses and communities to join hands with us in securing the future of the fund,” the Mayor said.
