SWAKOPMUND: Swakopmund mayor Juuso Kambueshe on Sunday announced that the town’s informal settlement will be formalised at a total cost of N.dollars 53 million.
The settlement, known as the Democratic Resettlement Community (DRC), has been in the spotlight several times during 2012 when residents demonstrated, demanding its formalisation.
Kambueshe made the announcement during an information-sharing meeting with residents of the DRC, situated on the outskirts of this tourist town.
Residents of the area were requested at the end of 2012 to appoint a committee to represent them during the formalisation process.
Kambueshe said the registration process of the residents will be done to capture the income levels of inhabitants residing in the DRC, adding that both the committee and the greater community need to buy into the proposed solution for the development of the DRC, and assist Council in the execution of all aspects of the project.
