Statistician-General to release the Financial Census of Municipalities, 2016 results
The Statistician-General of South Africa, Dr Pali Lehohla, will release the results of the 2016 Financial Census of Municipalities at a media briefing to be held on Wednesday, 28 June 2017 in Pretoria. The survey collected a variety of financial information from local, district and metropolitan municipalities.
The results present various financial statistics on municipalities in South Africa, including income sources (such as government grants, property rates and service charges). The report will also outline how municipalities spent the money generated and received as grants and subsidies. This includes, among other things, expenditure on: employee related costs, remuneration of councillors, repairs and maintenance and bulk purchases of water and electricity.
Other municipal financial information such as key ratios, including asset-liability ratios, will also be presented at the media briefing.
