Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the attack on “Mercer Street” oil tanker off the coast of Oman

Greece condemns the recent attack on the “Mercer Street” oil tanker, which resulted in the death of two crew members. We extend our condolences to Great Britain and Romania.

This attack constitutes a violation of International Law and in particular of International Law of the Sea.

It is reminded that freedom of navigation constitutes a fundamental rule of International Law of the Sea and must be respected by all states.
