WINDHOEK: The Swapo-Party Youth League (SPYL) Central Committee meeting that took place on Saturday elected its nine National Executive Committee (NEC) members.
The election took place at the Swapo-Party headquarters in the capital.
Briefing the media on Sunday, SPYL Secretary for Information, Mobilisation and Publicity Job Amupanda said the wing’s Central Committee held a free and fair election with the SPYL Constitution and Swapo-Party regulations as guidelines.
The new NEC members are:
Romana Epifania Hidileko – Secretary for Finance
Edward Kafita – Secretary for International Affairs
Naftali Kambungu – Secretary for Labour and Justice
Menthel Menzy Links – Secretary for Education, Sports and Culture
Immanuel Nashinge – Secretary for Education Affairs
Sioni Ikela – Secretary for Health, Population and Environment
Job Shipululo – Secretary for Information Publicity and Mobilisation
Josefat Hiwana – an additional member
Paulus Mbangu – an additional member
The SPYL will send 15 members to the Swapo Party Congress slated towards the end of November this year, of whom, nine are the NEC members, four from the Central Committee and SPYL Secretary and his deputy – Elijah Ngurare and Veikko Nekundi.
Ngurare is the SPYL’s sole candidate to the Swapo Central Committee slated for 29 October this year.
Meanwhile, Mandera Kapere and Sacky Shanghala, among other high-profile youth leaders and former members of the Central Committee were not nominated for any positions during the the wing’s Congress that took place in September this year.
