CAPE TOWN, Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng has urged South Africa’s political parties to resolve their problems internally before resorting to the courts.
Addressing the Cape Town Press Club on the subject of “Judicial Overreach” here Thursday, he said that the practice by polical parties placed an unnecessary political burden on the courts.
There are currently several challenges or threats of court challenges by members of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) over the outcomes of party elections held in various provinces.
Mogoeng said political parties should as far as possible try to resolve their own issues and the courts should be the last resort, when they are left with no choice.
“It is the responsibility of the leader and of the membership (of the political parties to do so),” added Mogoeng.
