CAPE TOWN, July 1 — The Police Commissioner of South Africa’s Western Cape Province, Arno Lamoer, has announced a reqard of 100,000 Rand (about 9,400 US dollars) reward for anyone with information about the murder of two police officers at Nyanga on the Cape Flats, a suburb southeast of Cape Town’s central business district Monday.
The officers were responding to a hijacking report when suspects shot and killed them and made off with their firearms.
Police have cordoned off the street where the two officers were shot dead Monday afternoon.
Community members looked on as investigators combed the scene for evidence.
Lamoer said Monday that he was appalled by the brazen nature of the attack and added that the police would do everything possible to nab the suspects.
This latest incident brings to five the number of police officers killed in the line of duty in the province this year.
