PRETORIA, South African Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba says a forensic investigation will be instituted to get to the bottom of why a one-billion-Rand (about 76.8 million US dollars) project at the National Treasury has not yielded any result.
The Treasury’s Integrated Financial Management system was started in 2005 with the aim of bringing all financial, supply chain and human resource management in the national government under one system.
Appearing before Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts Wednesday, Gigaba said the probe would be made a matter of top priority.
“Arising from the forensic investigation, it is my understanding that the Hawks (the Special Investigations Directorate of the South African Police Service) have also communicated to the (Treasury) Director-General they are investigating aspects of this matter. There will be requisite action against anybody who is found to have acted wrongfully,” Gigaba told the Committee.
