PRETORIA, The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has welcome the 1.0 million Rand (about 77,430 US dollars) donation from the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL), the national sports association which runs the country’s two main professional football leagues , to the SANDF Education Trust Fund.
PSL chairperson Irvin Khoza presented the donation to the SANDF Chief, General Solly Shoke, during the prestigious PSL awards ceremony at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg last week.
In a statement here Tuesday, the SANDF said the donation would contribute to educating more dependents of deceased SANDF personnel.
The Chief of the South African National Defence Force profoundly wishes to convey his mounting gratitude on the sincerest courtesy extended by fellow countrymen in advancing the SANDF’s efforts to actively contribute in a socially responsible cause, the SANDF said.
The trust, which was established in 2013, provides financial assistance in the form of bursaries for educational purposes to dependants of deceased SANDF members killed while on duty.
It is funded through donations and contributions received from the private sector. Since its establishment, 89 bursaries have been awarded.
