Metro police officers arrested two suspects aged 28 and 37 at Pinetown area for business robbery. It is alleged that a cashier was performing her duties at a food outlet when she was confronted by two suspects. At gunpoint the suspects demanded cash before removing an undisclosed amount of cash from the cash registers.
The complainant noticed Metro police in the vicinity of the business premises and alerted them about the robbery. The officers managed to arrest the suspects, recovered the cash and an unlicensed firearm. The suspects were handed over to Pinetown police for further investigation and they are expected to appear in the Pinetown Nagistrates’ Court tomorrow. The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crime in the province.
The KwaZulu Natal acting provincial commissioner Major Bhekinkosi Langa commended the police for their quick response. “We are very pleased with the work displayed by the police. Our detectives will make sure the suspects receive the sentence they deserve,” he said.
