WINDHOEK: Namibian powerlifter Ruben Soroseb failed to make the grade when he ended ninth out of 10 competitors on Wednesday at the 2012 Paralympic Games underway in London.

Soroseb, 32, could only manage to lift 190kg in the PO classification.

The winner, Mohamed Eldib from Egypt, lifted 249kg, followed by Dong Qi from China with 242kg and Iran’s Ali Sadeghzadehsalmani with 235kg.

Meanwhile, visually-impaired Namibian Ananias Shikongo will run on Thursday evening at 22h44 local time in the Men’s T11 400m.

Shikongo and guide Even Tjiviju are scheduled to run in Heat 3 of 3, and again on Friday in Round 1 of the Men’s T11 100m at 13h13 local time.

Another visually-impaired Namibian athlete, Martin Aloisius, will run on Friday in the Men’s T12 200m heats.
