The challenges in Somalia have been described as “tremendous” by the new Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in the country.
Raisedon Zenenga, a citizen of Zimbabwe, recently arrived in the capital Mogadishu to assume his duties with the UN Mission, UNSOM.
He said the global community needs to work together to push forward progress Somali people want to see.
He is scheduled to meet with officials from the Federal Government and Parliament of Somalia in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the UN and its international partners such as the EU and the African Union, have expressed concern on Thursday over political delays in the Horn of Africa country.
They called on Somalia’s leadership to ensure the appointment of a Cabinet endorsed by Parliament.
Somalia is working to rebuild as it recovers from over two decades of political instability.
