OTJIWARONGO: A 45-year-old security guard of the Namibia Protection Services (NPS) shot himself in the face in an apparent suicide at the Etambi residential area here today.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Otjozondjupa Regional Investigations’ Crime Coordinator, Moses Khairabeb told Nampa today that the deceased, Lemmy van Wyk, was a suspect in an armed robbery which took place at the Kisso Bar in Etambi yesterday.
At about 04h00 this morning, police officers moved in on him and found the vehicle he was in still on.
Khairabeb said Van Wyk was found dead inside the vehicle with a shotgun in his hands, and his face blown off.
The NPS armoured vehicle was locked and the police officers could not open it, and had to tow it to the police station where they broke it open to remove the body.
His family has been informed.
2 (NKURENKURU) – The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Kahenge district yesterday arrested a 24-year-old man after he allegedly strangled his girlfriend to death here on Sunday evening.
NamPol’s Kavango Regional Crime Investigations’ Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton told Nampa today that the suspect and the deceased had an argument inside a bar, and soon after the suspect dragged her outside where he allegedly strangled her with his bare hands.
The suspect allegedly ran away after realising that his girlfriend was unconscious.
It is alleged that the suspect strangled his lover after establishing that she had apparently been having an affair with someone else.
The suspect, whose name is known, is expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’ Court tomorrow.
