RWANDA’S PRESIDENT PAUL KAGAME ELECTED CHAIR OF AFRICAN UNION

ADDIS ABABA, President Paul Kagame of Rwanda has been elected Chairperson of the African Union (AU) at the 30th Ordinary AU Summit which opened its two meeting at the continental body’s headquarters in the Ethiopian capital Sunday.

President Kagame’s holding of the rotating Chair of the AU for a one-year term took place at a special closed-door session, just before the opening ceremony of the 30th Ordinary Assembly of Heads of State and Government.

Kagame, who succeeds Guinean President Alpha Conde, has made AU reforms the backbone of his programme for his term as Chair of the AU.
