Thousands of people lined up the streets from Kanilai in the West Coast Region to Banjul welcoming the President, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh Babili Mansa, as his nationwide tour draws to an end.
Welcome1The President’s entourage was accorded a rousing welcome characterised by singing and dancing by ecstatic crowds resplendent in party and national colours.
President Jammeh returned to Banjul on Saturday after concluding the first leg of the 2015 ‘Dialogue with the people’ tour.
He spent the last two weeks in fruitful dialogue with people in the provincial towns and cities of the country. The President used the opportunity to assess this year’s cropping season at various selected farms, as well as to inspect development projects across the country.
Officials of each region received President Jammeh and entourage at the entrance to their respective administrative regions.
TWelcome2he people of West Coast Region on Saturday escorted the President and his entourage to Abuko, where they were received by officials of the Kanifing Municipality (KM), led by the Lord Mayor, Alhaji Yankuba Colley.
The KM officials then escorted him and his entourage, in celebratory fashion befitting a rock star, to Denton Bridge, where the Mayor of Banjul, Alhaji Abdoulie Bah and officials of the Banjul City Council, as well as the Banjul Muslim Elders and religious leaders, among others, were at hand to welcome the President.
The Banjulians escorted the President to the State House in Banjul amid drumming and dancing by artists, as well as the APRC supporters and militants including ‘Yai Compins’ and youths.
Meanwhile, the tour is scheduled to continue in the West Coast Region, Kanifing Municipality and Banjul.
