On the meeting between EU High Representative and Vice-president Federica Mogherini and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission Dr Dlamini Zuma
Today the High Representative and Vice-president Federica Mogherini met with the Chairperson of the African Union Commission Dr Dlamini Zuma ahead of the annual College-to-College meeting of the two Commissions.
Following the meeting, the High Representative and Vice-president Federica Mogherini stated:
“The recent tragedies in the Mediterranean affect both our continents and our people. We have to work together to find solutions that will avoid the loss of so many lives and protect the human life and dignity of migrants. We need to deal with not just the immediate challenges, but also the root causes of irregular migration. Our partnership has a central role to play in tackling the criminal networks that feed on vulnerable migrants, and in helping create jobs and opportunities for young people in Africa.”
HRVP Mogherini and Chairperson Zuma also discussed the situation in Libya and regional crises in Africa such as Somalia and Boko Haram on which the EU and AU work together to resolve.
The talks will continue tomorrow in the full College to College meeting between the two Commissions.
