Pretoria: President Jacob Zuma will at the invitation of President of the Republic of Congo, Dennis Sassou-N’guesso, undertake a working visit to Brazzaville in Congo on 11 February 2014.
President Zuma will attend the celebrations of the 25th Anniversary of the Signature of the Brazzaville Accord on Peace in Southern Africa.
The occasion marks the end of the Brazzaville negotiations, which ended the Angolan civil war with the signing of the Brazzaville Protocol on 22 December 1988, and prepared the ground for the independence of Namibia and ultimately South Africa.
South Africa continues to enjoy cordial bilateral relations with the Republic of Congo. The formal relations between the two countries are structured through the Joint Commission of Cooperation as a mechanism to monitor and guide the implementation of Agreements. Zuma will be accompanied by the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.
