OMUTHIYA: President Hifikepunye Pohamba has called on the Namibian nation to take a firm stand in the quest for the social and economic development of people in every region of the country.
Pohamba said this at Omuthiya in the Oshikoto Region during the commemoration of Heroes’ Day today.
The Head of State said a firm stand must be taken to uphold the values and pursue the goals which so many of compatriots sacrificed their lives and shed their precious blood for.
The President said Namibians who were fortunate enough to be alive to witness the dawn of freedom in the country have a sacred duty to put the interests of all other Namibians, and that of the country, before anything else.
Heroes’ Day has been observed on 26 August every year since Independence in 1990 to commemorate the start of the armed struggle at Omugulugombashe in the Omusati Region in 1966.
It also serves to honour the sacrifices made in the country’s quest for independence, and is dedicated to those who sacrificed their lives for the struggle for freedom and independence.
