PRETORIA– President Cyril Ramaphosa has praised late South Africa freedom struggle stalwart, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, as a true leader who sacrificed her life for the benefit of others.
He was addressing the Madikizela family and residents of Mbhongweni village, the birth place of Madikizela-Mandela outside Mbizana in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday.
Ramaphosa said Madikizela-Mandela endured so much pain for the country to be free.
We recognize the role and contribution that Mama Winnie made. Not only to the people of this country but to the struggle to get all of us to be free. Mama Winnie gave a huge contribution, but in that contribution she suffered a great deal. It is difficult to even imagine the suffering that she went through.
Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to South Africa Ling Songtian said Madikizala-Mandela’s commitment to justice inspired the world to forge a better life for the poorest of the poor.
He was among the more than 70 ambassadors and heads of diplomatoc missions who visited the Mandela home in Orlando West in Soweto, Johannesburg, on Tuesday to pay their respects.
