Portolano: Prevailing calm owing to efforts of Lebanese army, local communities, and UNIFIL

NNA – The General Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, General Luciano Portolano, on Friday underscored that the calm prevailing in the UNIFIL operation area in South Lebanon was owing to the huge efforts made by the Lebanese army and security forces, the local communities, and the peacekeepers.
“We have encountered some incidents including rockets firing operations and Blue Line violations in additions of airspace breaches. We managed to preserve stability and calm in the region through the tripartite meeting,” Portolano told a reception ceremony he hosted at the UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura upon Christmas occasion.
“The United Nations mission in South Lebanon is assuming its duty on the basis of the international resolutions on top of which resolution 1701,” he indicated.
“The Lebanese army is a strategic partner of the UNIFIL whose success is owing to the efforts of the Lebanese Armed Forces and the local community,” he concluded.
