MARIENTAL: The 18th Namibian Police Force (NamPol) annual sports championship tournament will kick off at Mariental in the Hardap Region on Monday.
Hardap Regional Sports Officer, Chief Inspector Gerson Garoeb told Nampa upon enquiry Wednesday that all preparations have been finalised in anticipation of the start of the 2012 tournament on Monday morning.
Male and female sports teams from all 13 regions will compete in sports such as football, darts, tug-of-war, pool, volleyball and netball during the tournament.
The Hardap regional police team is the defending football champion and will open the field against the Ohangwena police’s team at the Mariental Sports Stadium.
Also on the same day, the Karas regional soccer team will lock horns with the Caprivi team.
Garoeb said most of the teams are expected to arrive from Wednesday, although the Oshikoto regional team had already arrived on Tuesday.
The final game of the tournament, where the overall 2012 winner and champions will be crowned, is expected on 01 September.
Last year’s tournament took place in Swakopmund in the Erongo Region and saw the Khomas Region crowned the overall winner.
