WINDHOEK: The City Police have played host to a delegation from the City of Abbotsford’s Police Department from Canada over the past three weeks.
The relationship between the City Police and their Canadian counterparts started in 2008, and has grown to such an extent that both forces are now benefiting from training and information-sharing.
During an informal media briefing at the City Police headquarters in Windhoek yesterday, both parties agreed that since their involvement four years ago, there are tangible improvements such as a decline in crime in the capital.
Chief Police Chief Abraham Kanime said the training by their Canadian partners, under the leadership of Deputy Chief Rick Lucy, focused on information management, the use of technology, the dispatch of teams to crime scenes and the training of supervisors.
Apart from training given to the City Police, the team of four City of Abbotsford’s Police officers also had time to visit a few places of interest in the country.
They will leave for Canada today.
