Paramedics called police for assistance after a man was found unconscious in the centre of Exeter on Monday night.

Officers were deployed in Exeter city centre and police cars gathered in South Street at around 9.30pm.

Paramedics had been called to reports of a man collapsed in the street.

The man is believed to have suffered a fit as he regained consciousness and became aggressive towards medics at the scene.

He refused treatment.

Paramedics were at the scene alongside three officers wearing blue gloves with the man outside the Caramello Gelato ice cream parlour.

Police today said no offences were committed and they were helping paramedic colleagues with a concern for welfare.
