SIBBINDA: President Hifikepunye Pohamba has described the death of former Sibbinda Constituency Councillor Felix Mukupi as a “great loss”.
Speaking during a visit to the late Mukupi’s residence at Sibbinda on Saturday, Pohamba said his death was a great loss not only for the people of the Caprivi Region, but also for the Swapo-Party and the country as a whole.
It was the Head of State and Swapo-Party president’s first visit to the Mukupi residence since the former councillor died in an accident in June this year.
He expressed his heartfelt condolences to Mukupi’s bereaved family, saying the country “greatly appreciated” the role he played.
Eligible voters in the Sibbinda Constituency go to the polls on Friday (14 September) to elect their new councillor, and Pohamba stated that the Swapo-Party has found a suitable person to fill the shoes of the former Sibbinda Constituency Councillor.
Meanwhile, Mukupi’s older brother Mafeya Mukupi thanked the government for its support during the untimely passing of his brother.
After his visit to the residence, the President laid a wreath at Mukupi’s grave along with Swapo-Party Secretary-General Pendukeni Iivhula-Ithana and Swapo-Party chairperson of the national leaders assigned to the Caprivi Region, John Mutorwa.
Other dignitaries present at the laying of the wreath included Presidential Affairs Minister Dr Albert Kawana, Caprivi Governor Lawrence Sampofu, and a number of Caprivi regional and local authority councillors.
