OKAHANDJA: Fifty-four Officer Cadets were commissioned by President Hifikepunye Pohamba at the Osona Military Base today after completing 17 months’ training course in basic soldiering and other disciplines with the Namibian Defence Force (NDF).
The course commenced during September 2011, and covered conventional warfare, low-intensity operations, leadership and administration.
Out of the 54 Officer Cadets commissioned, 15 are women.
In his address, the Head of State explained that the aim of the training was to mould and develop trainees into knowledgeable military officers capable of becoming effective leaders within the NDF.
He said the training was also aimed at fostering cooperation and dedication within the Force, and expressed his confidence that with the completion of their training, they are now equipped with the skills required to be able to overcome the many challenges they will encounter as officers of the NDF.
The president also called on young Namibian women who aspire to join the NDF, as well as those who are already in the force, to work hard so that they could advance through the ranks to assume command responsibilities.
