PM Abiy Launches Ethiopia’s First Local Medical Products Manufacturing Exhibition

ADDIS ABABA - Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed inaugurated the Local Medical Products Manufacturing and Innovation Exhibition today at Millennium Hall, signaling a major push towards self-reliance in Ethiopia's medical supply sector. The event, themed "Our Health by Our Products," aims to showcase the capabilities of local manufacturers and foster innovation within the healthcare industry.

According to Ethiopian News Agency, the exhibition is a landmark for Ethiopia, being organized for the first time in collaboration between the Ministry of Health and local associations dedicated to medical supply manufacturing and innovation. It highlights the government’s commitment to enhancing the domestic production of medical supplies and reducing dependence on imports. The exhibition features over 110 local manufacturers, displaying a wide range of products and services, including opportunities for business networking, panel discussions, and other related programs.

Key attendees at the opening ceremony included Tagesse Chaffo, Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives, Agegnehu Teshager, Speaker of the House of Federation, regional state presidents, Health Minister Mekdes Daba, and other senior officials from both federal and regional research institutions. The exhibition will run from June 22 to 27, 2024, offering visitors a chance to engage directly with manufacturers and to explore investment opportunities within Ethiopia's burgeoning healthcare sector.

The initiative not only aims to boost the local medical equipment manufacturing industry but also serves as a platform for businesses to attract investment and increase the market share of Ethiopian-made medical supplies.
