ONDANGWA: The 23-year-old suspect charged with robbing and murdering Oshekedhiya Apostolic Faith Mission Pastor, Gabriel Abiatar Uugwanga earlier this month appeared in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Hamutenya Mateiko Bernardo Matheus made a brief first appearance on charges of murder and theft.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded in police custody. His case was postponed to 13 December this year to allow for further police investigations.
Matheus stands used of killing Uugwanga on 04 October. He also stole the clergyman’s leather sandals, N.dollars 350, a black bag and wallet.
The 71-year-old pastor’s body was found in a pool of blood in a zinc house at his cattle post at Uulunga waDaniel in the semi-desert area in the south of the Oshana Region.
Matheus went on the run and was arrested in the Ondangwa area towards the end of last week.
The suspect hails from Olyavahenge village in the Okalongo district of the Omusati Region. The late pastor is said to have found Matheus at Oshakati towards the end of September this year, and took him to the cattle post at Uulunga waDaniel to work for him as a herder.
The motive behind the killing remains unknown.
