CAPE TOWN-The South African Parliament’s Committee on Police says the continuous killing of police officers remains a serious concern which must be dealt with urgently.
The Committee on Wednesday said the killing of police officers is a direct affront to the authority of the State and to Constitutional order.
This follows the recent shooting of two police officers in Khayelitsha outside Cape Town. One officer was shot dead while the other managed to escape death.
Another police officer was also shot dead in Mount Frere in Eastern Cape Province recently.
Committee Chairperson Francois Beukman said the continuous killing of police officers remained a serious concern which must be dealt with urgently.
Police Minister Bheki Cele is expected to visit the family of the victims in Khayelitsha.
Beukman called on the communities of both Khayelitsha and Mount Free to assist the police with any information that would lead to the speedy arrests of the perpetrators.
