WINDHOEK: A total of 453 Namibians are benefitting from the Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs’ study grants, of whom 78 are war veterans and 375 are dependents of war veterans.
Speaking during a media briefing here on Wednesday, Minister of Veterans’ Affairs, Dr Nickey Iyambo said a total of N.dollars 5.5 million was allocated for study grants in the 2012/2013 financial year, while N.dollars 9.3 million was budgeted for in the 2013/2014 financial year.
The minister said they are receiving a large number of applications every year.
War veterans have to be registered as such with the line ministry, while dependents of war veterans must be under the age of 21, and their parents registered as war veterans.
The beneficiaries must already have been admitted for studies at the University of Namibia (Unam), Polytechnic of Namibia or any other Namibian vocational institution.
